TEHRAN (IQNA) – Sheikh Akram al-Kaabi, the secretary general of Iraq’s al-Nujaba Movement, a major Shia resistance group, described a rocket attack that killed five members of a family in Baghdad as a “heinous crime”, calling for formation of a committee to investigate the attack.

Three children and two women, from the same family, were killed in the Katyusha rocket launch targeting a residential building near the Baghdad International Airport on Monday.

In a statement, Iraq’s military condemned the rocket attack, which also severely wounded two other children.

Sheikh al-Kaabi urged a transparent probe into the incident so that the enemies’ evil plots are known to the Iraqi nation.

He also categorically rejected the resistance movements’ involvement in the attack.

No group has claimed responsibility for the assault, which, according to the Iraqi military, was carried out by ‘criminal gangs and groups of outlaws’ seeking to create chaos and terrorize people.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, has ordered the identification and arrest of the perpetrators, saying “these gangs will not be allowed to go around and tamper with security” with impunity.
